Do you ever wonder how you could use your polls to tell a better story or reach a broader audience? Ever feel frustrated by limitations of basic cross-tab tables and bar charts? If so then this workshop is for you!
Join NEAAPOR (The New England Chapter of the American Association for Public Opinion Research) for a half day, hands-on workshop with award winning, interactive designer, Nick Harbaugh. This workshop will include both a large group seminar and small group data visualization exercises, all with a specific focus on the opportunities and challenges of visualizing survey data.
You will leave the workshop understanding:
- What data visualization is and the various approaches to telling a visual story with data.
- The different types and techniques of data visualization including static and interactive approaches.
- How you can enhance visualizations with imagery, voices and storytelling elements.
- How you can complement your existing survey products and services with data visualization.
- How you find, engage, and collaborate with a contractor when in-house expertise isn’t available.
Participants will also have the opportunity to work with Nick in small groups to take on different data visualization challenges with a sample dataset. The goal of the exercise will be to brainstorm an effective and creative way to visualize the dataset in order to best convey a sense of understanding to your audience.
The workshop will focus on data visualization concepts that can be applied to a range of topics, types of survey data, and applied using a variety of data visualization software packages from Excel to Adobe Illustrator to Tableau.
